Even though these MMORPGs have lively, crowded worlds, they’re still great for playing by yourself!
For some reason, you’ve always wanted to play an MMORPG but don’t have any friends to go with you. It’s also possible that you want a big, open world game with lots of story and fun fighting.
MMORPGs might not be the best choice for you if you want to do something by yourself. But don’t worry—you won’t get lost in a new MMORPG world if you don’t have friends to help you. You can do a lot of things in MMORPGs by yourself, and you’ll probably meet some other people in the game along the way.
New World

When Amazon Games released New World, it pretty much stole 2021 and the MMORPG community as a whole. This huge MMO has a new take on the “classless” fighting system. It’s so good for playing by yourself that they’ve made it so that anyone who joins a faction automatically gets the “Only Plays Solo” title. New World still has a lot to offer a casual single player, even though Expeditions and PVP War Campaigns need to be played with a group.
You can do a lot of the early quest work by yourself. You can spend hours fishing, gathering, and making things if you want to be calm. Your character should be built like a tank so that you can join a group if you get lost or need help. Tanks are always in demand for grouped events.
Neverwinter

Happy news for anyone who wants to play Dungeons and Dragons but can’t find a good Dungeon Master or friends to play with! It’s a free-to-play MMORPG built on the world of D&D. For gamers who want to learn more about the world of D&D, Neverwinter is a great place to start. It has all the same classes and races that you can play as in the classic tabletop roleplaying game, as well as famous places from the game.
Not like regular D&D, you can play Neverwinter by yourself. Up until level 60, it’s pretty easy to do quests and go through dungeons. After that, it gets a little harder to play by yourself. People in the community say that the best class for solo play is a “beefy” class like Fighter or Paladin.
Elder Scrolls Online

If you liked Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, you’ll love Elder Scrolls Online, too. It’s a classic MMORPG set in the world of Tamriel and has the same storyline. ESO is a great MMORPG for solo players, but it might not be the best choice for gamers who can’t wait for Elder Scrolls VI to come out.
Up until you reach the Veteran level, you can do a lot of the questing and story material by yourself. You can even fight some world bosses by yourself. There is, however, story content that is meant to be played by four or more people and is nearly hard to do by yourself.
Guild Wars 2

Guild Wars 2 is one of the best MMORPGs for playing by yourself. Its base is made up of instanced settings, and the story changes based on what you do as a player. As an MMORPG, this makes it pretty special. A lot of the main story is meant to be played by yourself.
In the long run, Guild Wars 2 also makes it easy to join odd groups for big events and world bosses, among other places. With an extremely helpful and happy community, Guild Wars 2 is a great pick if you want to dip your toes into an MMORPG solo.
Lord Of The Rings Online

At some point in our lives, we’ve all wished we could live in a hobbit hole. Even though Lord of the Rings Online isn’t an exact copy of the famous J.R.R. Tolkien books, what could be better than living in Middle Earth as your own character?
The LOTRO group has been around since 2007 and is still going strong. Adventure through well-known places like the Shire, the Mines of Moria, and more as one of seven races. LOTRO is great for people who like to play by themselves because it has solo battles where you can fight with AI soldiers that you can customize.
Rift

Rift is a fantasy MMORPG that looks and feels a lot like classic games in the genre, but with a Lovecraftian twist. You play as an Ascended person who keeps the world of Telara safe from enemies from the various planes. There are six different races to choose from in Rift, which has split groups.
It’s a little harder to play Rift by yourself than in some other MMORPGs, but it is possible. You can level up without much trouble by yourself, but you’ll need a group to do attacks and dungeons.
Skyforge

This is a fancy sci-fi MMORPG that is very easy on the eyes. In a way that reminds me of the Percy Jackson series, you play as an immortal hero who wants to become a god and fights aliens all over the planet Aelion.
On the surface, Skyforge has a lot to like. There are 17 classes to choose from, and you can make your character look and feel very different from other characters. You can do a lot of the early story material by yourself, and later in the game, you can even do quests that are meant for up to three people by yourself.
Albion Online

Have you ever gotten bored with your MMORPG class or subclass and hated having to start over with a new character? If so, you might want to check out Albion Online.
The self-described sandbox medieval fantasy MMORPG is a nice change from other classic MMOs. It has a unique “classless” system that lets you switch between powers based on what you wear. You can even have your own island to farm, fish, and take care of animals. Albion Online is fun to play by yourself, even if it takes a little longer. You can level up, make, and even fight other players.
MapleStory

MapleStory is one of the best MMORPGs out there. Play as a Maple World citizen in this one-of-a-kind, cutesy, chibi-style 2D side-scrolling MMORPG and fight the evil Black Mage. You can definitely level up slowly by yourself in MapleStory, and most people find it easy to join groups when they need to.
That may be needed sometimes because you need a party to fight bosses. Many players on Twitch and community forums are still ready to help new players, though, so MapleStory still has a strong community.
Final Fantasy 14

Final Fantasy 14 is a great choice if you want to play a story-driven fantasy journey by yourself. The best thing about this MMO is that it can be played in a lot of different ways. It has a calm, story-focused mode for casual gamers, and it also has a lively, mostly positive community of players who are known for helping new players. You can even choose to play through Dungeons by yourself in Geometry Dash World. This makes it one of the best MMORPGs for playing by yourself.
As part of the Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker DLC, the Island Sanctuary area adds a whole new way to play by yourself. You can adjust building layouts, take care of animals, and farm to your heart’s content in this single-player area that feels like Stardew Valley.
Temtem

Temtem is a newer game on our list, but it’s different. With its levels, classes, and leveling system, Temtem is not at all like a typical MMORPG. Instead, it feels more like a multiplayer Pokemon game.
In Temtem, you can journey around the world and gather different creatures, which are also called Temtems. You can see and even talk to other players while exploring, but you don’t have to. You can play the whole game without ever talking to another person.
World of Warcraft

You already know about World of Warcraft because it is one of the most famous MMORPGs. You know of it even if you don’t play games in this type. This game has a lot of dungeons, raids, and PvP options, but it’s also great for people who want to play by themselves.
You can play the game by yourself, and you don’t have to go through most of the dungeons. You can skip these group tasks and play by yourself instead, even though they can add to the story. You will always have the chance to play with other people if you decide you want to.
Old School RuneScape

An MMO that has been around for a long time, Old School RuneScape shows that the way a game is put together is more important than how good the pictures or effects are. You can choose from a huge amount of content, and you’re not forced to use any specific classes or builds. And most material is made to be finished by one person.
It’s also very easy to use OSRS. Since the game is both a mobile app and a web game, you can play from almost anywhere with an account. This is a great choice if you want some high fantasy with lots of things to do.
Black Desert Online

You can do almost anything you want in Black Desert Online, which is a sandbox MMO. There aren’t any raids, dungeons, or a clear, straight story like in most MMORPGs. You can do anything you want in Black Desert Online, from making the best ship ever to hiring an army of people to make things for you.
Black Desert Online has a lot of material that is made to be played by one person. You can play with other people as often or as little as you want because there is no set pattern. You can only get to some content if you play with other people, but you can still play through a lot of it by yourself.
Star Wars: The Old Republic

Star Wars: The Old Republic is the last game. All of the games on our list have group content, and this MMORPG does too. There is also a lot of material that can be done by yourself. You won’t miss out on much while you play if you don’t take part in group material.
In Star Wars: The Old Republic, leveling material is meant to be played by one person at a time. This means that you can start the game and level up by yourself. As soon as you feel ready, you can join other people, but this is only a small part of what you can see.
